What we do

The People’s Funeral Project exists to help communities of color lay their deceased to rest when victimized by police murder and other forms of state-sanctioned violence. We respect the community-based fund raising and organizing that occurs whenever one of these tragedies unfolds and we want to help by ensuring that the maximum amount of community-based funding enables the family to replace lost income and ensure some level of economic stability while dealing with their loss.

Clearly it is not enough to jump from hardship to hardship. The People’s Funeral Project will take a proactive stance that includes a mixture of tactics to increase police accountability and disincentivize methods of policing that disproportionately affect communities of color.
